Driades is free, open source and self-hostable, and it stays that way. That only works if the cost of building it sits somewhere other than a paywall. Sponsorship is where it sits: companies fund the canvas, everyone else gets to use it without paying or being tracked.

The scale that pays for people rather than infrastructure. One or two of these fund the project outright, which is the point: no venture round, no acquisition, no moment where the free tier quietly gets worse.

It is not an ad network. There is no third-party script, no tracking pixel, no cookie and no profile of the person looking at it. The canvas ships with no analytics in it and sponsorship does not change that — if it ever did, it would stop being the thing worth sponsoring. Paid workspaces never carry a sponsor slot at all.
Two things sponsors ask for that are not a logo.
If you publish open data, sponsorship can put it in front of the people who would actually use it: a card in the 🌍 catalogue, one click from any canvas, with your provenance, attribution and licence carried on the layer wherever it travels.
Anything promoted still has to be genuinely readable in the browser — a live URL, range requests, permissive CORS. A card that 404s helps nobody.
We are building a marketplace so publishers can offer paid datasets on the canvas, mounted the same way an open one is. Sponsors at Old growth get a storefront and shape how it works before it opens.

These numbers are aimed at organisations with budgets. If you are a person who just wants the thing to keep existing, that counts too — and it is not a lesser version of sponsoring, it is most of how open tools survive.
Individual support buys no sponsor slot and no promoted dataset. It buys the same thing it always has: someone maintaining a tool you rely on.
